To use the model, click on the Red One and drag to rotate it in 3D space. As you do, you will see the Frames Per Second (FPS) meter at the bottom of the screen update as a measure for the program's performance.
The default material for the model is a texture with lighting effects baked onto it. Anti-aliasing for this image has been turned on by default as well. The control buttons at the bottom of the page allow you to see the model in a variety of conditions and customizations.
Control Buttons
Lighting
Turns on a material for the model that accepts dynamic lighting through Papervision 3D. Unfortunately, this adds to the overhead for processing the scene and there is very little customization available, so baking the lighting scheme onto the materials is preferred.
Wireframe
Changes the material for the model to a wireframe representation. This had worse than expected performance due to the relative complexity of the model and the number of polygons to represent.
Anti-Alias
This controls whether the materials have anti-aliasing applied to them or not, which slightly affects performance but greatly enhances the look and feel of the model.
Toggle Drag Quality
This control only has an effect when either Lighting or Wireframe buttons are turned on. While the model is being dragged, it reverts the material to the default baked bitmap material, which has shown itself to yield the best performance.
Update After Drag
This is a somewhat difficult feature to really see, but Papervision is not a completely seamless renderer. This means that during some render passes, there can be z-sorting issues with polygons from separate pieces of geometry that collide with each other. To get around this, we can use a different engine to render the polygons perfectly, but it comes at a heavy cost. Turning on "Update After Drag" will trigger a single render pass with the improved engine after the camera has been dragged, allowing for normal performance during drag, and adding a slight delay to ensure a perfect model whenever the camera stops moving.
Half Size
Just like the name implies, turning on this button shrinks the model by half, improving performance somewhat.
